Fire erupts near SM Calamba

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna—Fire broke out in a commercial and residential area at the back of the SM City mall in Calamba City, Laguna, on Saturday night, reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection in the city said.

Fire Officer 2 Gill Castillo said the fire started around 8:45 p.m.

“We were told that it was a residential area although there were also several food stalls there,” Castillo said in a telephone interview.

As of 9:15 p.m., the fire reached second alarm, requiring fire trucks from the nearby city of Cabuyao and this town to help put it out.

There are no reported injuries as of press time. The BFP has yet to identify the cause of the fire.
