Cabuyao Cabuyao City Mayor Mel Gecolea and Sta. Rosa City Mayor Dan Fernandez discuss the “friendship” road project.

A four-lane, 20-meter “friendship” road will be built to ease traffic congestion along Pulo-Diezmo Road, Cabuyao’s only gateway to South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

The public-private partnership project will open a new gateway via Eton-Greenfield SLEX exit, said Cabuyao City Mayor Mel Gecolea, the project’s principal proponent.

The road will begin from Eton City-ABI rotunda passing through Malitlit road and exiting to Cabuyao National Road in Barangay Sala.

The project is a partnership between the city governments of Cabuyao, Sta. Rosa and beverage company Asia Brewery, Inc. and real estate developer Eton Properties Philippines, Inc.

“With both cities working together in partnership with the private sector, the ABI and Eton, this undertaking will prove that PPP is an effective modality in bringing solutions to the city’s problems” said Gecolea.

“This will just be the start of our more dynamic partnership with the private sector like the ABI. There will be more to follow in the coming days,” he said in a high-level meeting held on September 13 in Sta. Rosa City.

Aside from Gecolea, the meeting was attended by Sta. Rosa City Mayor Dan Fernandez, ABI executive Richard Sun, Eton representative Star Tuason, and the two city’s technical teams.

A technical working group (TWG) was formed to spearhead the project.
