Blessed Teresa’s relics to be venerated in QC

Filipino Catholics will have the opportunity to venerate the relics of Blessed Mother Teresa of Kolkata (Calcutta) starting tomorrow until the date of her canonization as Saint on Sept. 4.

Church-run Radio Veritas will open its chapel in Quezon City for the public veneration of the first class relic “ex capillis”( from the hair) and second class relic “ex indumentis”( from the clothing) of Blessed Mother Teresa.

In a statement, Radio Veritas said devotees may pray before the relics of Blessed Mother Teresa from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel.

Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia. At 18, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived the rest of her life.

She founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation. In 2012, her congregation included 4,500 sisters and was active in 133 countries. The group runs hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens; dispensaries and mobile clinics; children’s and family counseling programs; orphanages and schools.  It has built homes  for orphans and a hospice for the terminally ill in India.

On Oct. 9, 2003 she was beatified as “Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.” A miracle was credited to her intercession in December 2015, paving the way for her sainthood. She will be canonized on Sept. 4, 2016.
