Not all heroes wear capes, some just hold food trays on their hands.

A Texas waiter has been handed a huge tip as a reward for his random act of kindness inside a local supermarket 24 hours before his service.

According to a Telegraph report, Applebee’s bar and grill restaurant server Kasey Simmons could not believe his luck after he had been left with a $500 (P23,231) tip for just a 37-cent (P18) bill.

“They ordered the cheapest thing on the menu. Flavored water,” the 32-year-old Dallas native confirmed to the Telegraph.

As it it turned out, the generous customer was the daughter of an elderly woman who Simmons had willingly helped out in a grocery store the day before.

The generous tipper, who wished to remain anonymous, said the kindhearted server was extremely nice to her mother while grocery-shopping and even offered to pay for her items.

“It was only $17, but it’s not about the money. It’s about showing someone you care,” she said.

The delighted customer also left a napkin with a handwritten note explaining why she decided to give the waiter such a hefty tip.

“On one of the most depressing days of the year  you made my mother’s day wonderful. You insisted on paying [and] told her she is a very beautiful woman,” the note said.

The elderly lady was reportedly struggling  through the third anniversary of her husband’s death, and Simmon’s random act of kindness had made all the difference.

“I have not seen this woman smile this much since Dad died. My mother did not need you to help her, but you made her year!” it said.  Khristian Ibarrola
