Palace orders gov’t appointees to submit courtesy resignations

MANILA — Malacañang gave all presidential appointees, except those designated by President Duterte, seven days to submit their courtesy resignation.
In a memorandum circular signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, those who would refuse to comply with the order would face administrative charges.
Medialdea issued the order in compliance with the President’s directive declaring vacant all appointive positions under the executive branch.
Besides Mr. Duterte’s appointees, also exempted from the President’s order to vacate their posts were officials of state universities and colleges, the judiciary and government-owned and -controlled corporations.
Also saved from the revamp were career employees as stipulated by the civil service law, officials of constitutional commissions and “those whose appointments are currently being processed.”
“All government officials and employees… are hereby enjoined to comply strictly with ethical norms of honesty, integrity, efficiency and fidelity to the people they are sworn to serve and protect,” Medialdea said. SFM
