‘Bato’: Death awaits cops who exploit vulnerable widows

Cops preying on vulnerable widows of late policemen will be treated like drug lords and will face death, Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald “Bato” De la Rosa said on Friday.
Speaking to the personnel of the PNP’s Retirement and Benefits Administration Service, De la Rosa vented his ire on cops, particularly noncommissioned officers, who take advantage of grieving widows claiming the benefits of their late husbands.
De la Rosa said President Rodrigo Duterte himself received complaints from the widows.
“‘Yon talaga pinakaayaw niya. Maraming nakakarating sa kanya na complaint na sa kakabalik ng byuda dito para mag-claim ng benefits ng namatay na asawa niya, pagdating dito pahirapan pa ng mga PNCO (Police Non-Commissioned Officers) na matulis,” Dela Rosa said in his speech on Friday.
(That is what he hates the most. He has received several complaints that widows claiming benefits of their dead husbands here are being exploited by abusive PNCO personnel.)
“Hanggang sa mag give in ‘yung byuda. Inuupakan na ng PNCO ‘yung byuda, hindi pa naka-claim ng benefits, nabuntis na ‘yung byuda!”
(They do it until the widows give in. They toy with the widows until they get pregnant even before they could claim their benefits.)
He then warned policemen that like drug lords, pushers and users, they would get harsh treatment from him.
“I hope wala na ‘yung mga PNCO na ‘yun dito ha? Kasi kung nandito pa, I will treat you like a drug lord. Una ko kayong papatayin talaga kapag may ganyan kayong klaseng pulis,” he said.
(I hope those PNCO are no longer here. Because if you are, I will treat you like a drug lord. I will kill those kinds of police first.)
“Pwede kayo mambabae sa labas. Huwag lang ‘yung mga byudang kinakawawa. Kawawang kawawa na pero titirahin pa ninyo. I hope during my term walang mangyari na ganyan or else papatayin ko talaga kayo,” De la Rosa added.
(You may womanize outside of your duties. But never exploit vulnerable widows. They are already grieving and you still abuse them. I hope during my term, nothing like that happens or else I will kill you.) IDL/rga
