2 Koreans charged with murder

TWO KOREANS were charged with murder for the death of a casino financier, a fellow Korean whose case they had reported as a suicide, after an investigation showed that the victim owed P25 million to one of the suspects.

The police filed the complaint in the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office last week against Jeon Eung-shik, 45, a businessman residing in Parañaque City and Song Yongjae, 47, an electronic engineer staying in Pasay City.

The two suspects were with Shin Ju-young, 37, when the latter supposedly shot himself in the head on July 1 at the Asiatel Econo Hotel in Pasay City.

Shin Sungchol, the victim’s uncle and complainant in the case, told the police that Shin’s death was suspicious because in Korean culture, they don’t commit suicide in front of other Koreans.

All three tested negative for gunpowder, according to SPO4 Allan Valdez of Pasay City police.

The suspects however, failed lie detector tests, leading to the complaint against them, especially after probers discovered that the victim owed P25 million to Jeon.  Erika Sauler

 

SUV driver in hit-and-run identified

THE DRIVER of a sport utility vehicle which ran over and killed a 23-year-old call center agent and injured his three coworkers in Pasig City before dawn on Sunday has been identified.

Baldwin Cham Velasco, a businessman, has promised to give himself up after he sped after from the scene, according to PO3 Edwin Cruz, case investigator of the Pasig police traffic investigation unit.

Velasco was identified after a witness provided the police with the license plate of Velasco’s SUV.

According to the report of Senior Insp. Roberto Garcia, chief of the Pasig City Police investigation unit, the SUV hit the four victims as they were crossing a pedestrian lane on Doña Julia Vargas Street around 2:50 a.m.

The deceased was identified as Jake Santillas, a resident of Taguig City.

Injured were Marinel Rabina of Masambong, Bulacan, who suffered a miscarriage and was reported to still be in critical condition; Juan Carlo Villanueva of Taguig City who remained under observation and Micah Uy of Pulilan, Bulacan.
