Isabela prohibits sailing, fishing as ‘Carina’ nears
CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — Isabela officials declared a “no sailing, no fishing” policy and issued a liquor ban in four coastal towns of Isabela as Tropical Storm “Carina” crawled northward on Sunday (July 31).
Isabela Governor Faustino Dy III ordered officials in the towns of Divilacan, Maconacon, Palanan and Dinapigue to implement the order and monitor the situation.
He also suspended classes in high school, elementary and pre-school levels on Monday (August 1) after storm signal no. 2 was hoisted over the province.
No preemptive evacuation has been reported at press time.
Jessie James Geronimo, Isabela provincial information officer, said the disaster risk reduction management council already deployed rescue teams in strategic areas.
He said a P27-million evacuation center for typhoon evacuees had become operational at the Isabela government center in Alibagu village here.
Kevin Pasion, a farmer living along the riverbank in Baculod village here, said they had already packed essential belongings in case flooding along the Pinacanauan river would force them to evacuate./rga
