2 drug suspects killed by police in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines—Two suspected drug dealers were killed by police in a shootout on Monday during a buy-bust operation at a park here.

Opay Catungal and Piggy Cornel drew out a .45 caliber pistol and a hand grenade and were shot dead at 11 a.m. at a beach cottage at the Tondaligan National Park in the seaside village of Bonuan Gueset, said Supt. Christopher Abrahano, city police chief.

Abrahano described Catungal as “the number 1 drug personality” in Malasiqui town in Pangasinan province, while Cornel was on the police watchlist.

Last Saturday in Nueva Ecija, vendor Raffy Francisco was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Sto. Domingo town at 6:15 a.m. Police said the vendor had a cigarette pack containing what appeared to be marijuana.
