Sotto, Trillanes favor martial law vs Abu

Two senators on Thursday said they were in favor of declaring martial law in Sulu province to rescue the hostages still being held by the Abu Sayyaf terror group.

Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Vicente Sotto III said they supported the move—which President Aquino the other day revealed he had contemplated implementing three days before June 13, the deadline set by the Abu Sayyaf for ransom to be paid to save the life of Canadian hostage Robert Hall.

In text messages, Trillanes said that placing Sulu under martial law “definitely will help in the ongoing rescue operations” against the Abu Sayyaf.

Sotto, for his part, said he favored martial law in Sulu for the purpose of rescuing the hostages, but this should follow the Constitution.
