P50K base pay lures nursing graduate to PNP
TACLOBAN CITY—The promise of a basic pay of up to P50,000 a month is luring graduates of courses not related to fighting crimes to enter the police force.
This is the case of Cybil Castil, 27 and a nursing graduate, who is now training to become a policeman.
The prospect of earning P50,000 a month as a police officer 1 has drawn Castil to the police force. “It’s bigger than what an ordinary nurse like me can earn in a month,” said Castil.
A nurse receives a monthly pay of P18,000 in a public hospital and P9,000 in private facilities.
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte has promised to increase police salaries from P50,000 for PO1 to P300,000 for a chief superintendent.
The current monthly pay of a PO1 is only P14,800.
