STUDENTS should prepare their umbrellas and rain coats for Monday, June 13, as the first day of school may be marred by partly cloudy skies and thunderstorms, the state weather bureau said.

“Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country,” Pagasa said in its 24-hour weather forecast issued at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

It added that the southwest monsoon has started affecting extreme northern Luzon.

Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over northern Luzon, causing coastal waters in the area to become moderate to occasionally rough, Pagasa said.

Coastal seas in the rest of the country will become slight to moderately rough due to light to moderate winds coming from the south and southwest, Pagasa added.

Sunrise on Monday will be at 5:27 a.m. while sunset will be at 6:26 p.m.

About 25 million students will go back to school on Monday, a million of them will become the first entrants in the government’s Senior High School (SHS) program. AJH/ac
