DAVAO CITY, Philippines—(UPDATE) A technical problem forced a Manila-bound Cebu Pacific plane to return to the Davao International Airport on Thursday afternoon.

Cebu Pacific Flight 5J 956 left Davao City at 4:41 pm but the aircraft had to return 20 minutes after take-off.

The pilot said there was a “technical problem”. Upon landing back at the airport, a flight steward announced the plane was no longer safe to fly.

The passengers were told to disembark and wait at the departure area while the technical ground crew checked the plane.

Passengers of the aircraft were disappointed as their concerns were not attended immediately.

At first, only one staff at the departure area entertained the passengers’ concerns, causing long lines. Some passengers had to wait for more than an hour to be accommodated with their concerns.

After a few hours, Cebu Pacific cancelled the said flight.

Other passengers who have urgent business in Manila were rebooked to a later flight but those who were not accommodated were booked for Friday.

Sleeping accommodations were provided to stranded passengers. TVJ
