Demonyos beat Super Idols, grab 7th IBP hoops title
THE Los Demonyos stunned Super Idols, 64-56, last Saturday to capture the championship of the 7th IBP Governor’s Cup-2011 basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym along Escario St., Cebu City.
The Super Idols posted a slim advantage at the half but cooled down in the third as the Los Demonyos worked on a swarming defense.
In the fourth, three-point artist Lito Ortiz and Jun Pintor rallied the Los Demonyos with crucial baskets that gave them the title-clinching victory.
Ortiz and Pintor finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively for Los Demonyos, while Richard Bauzon chipped in 10 markers.
Fermin Pepito led Super Idols with a game-high 17 points while Eugene Sumampong and William Mañuz combined for 21 markers.
Meanwhile, Pañeros lifted the third place trophy after scoring a come-from-behind, 59-58 win over defending champion Pecandela Law Firm.
Pecandela led in the first three periods behind Sam Malazarte and Mark Russ Gamallo, but the Pañeros outscored the former in the fourth, 19-12 for the one-point victory.
Dennis Aliño and Ruel Juban led Pañeros with 15 and 11 points, respectively while Mark Russ Gamallo and Sam Malazarte paced Pecandela with 12 points apiece.
