The camp of leading vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo has vehemently denied releasing an “open letter” asking her rival Senator Bongbong Marcos to accept defeat and pouncing on some media organizations for attacking her in their publications.

“There is no truth to that letter. It did not come from our camp. We don’t know anything about it,” Georgina Hernandez, spokesperson of Robredo, said in a press briefing at the Ateneo de Manila University on Monday.

When asked what Robredo thought upon seeing the letter, Hernandez said Robredo just reiterated her earlier stand to “take the high road and ignore criticisms” against her.

“We ask the public to be more vigilant (against election-related black propaganda),” Hernandez said.

A supposed open letter of Robredo to media is being sent to reporters using the e-mail address [email protected], which Hernandez said was not the official e-mail account of Robredo.

Written in Filipino, Robredo, in the fake letter, slammed some broadsheet and tabloid newspapers for “doing nothing but to malign and denigrate” her. She supposedly also “thanked” them because “they did not succeed in their evil plan.”

Robredo’s eldest daughter Aika also posted a clarification on Twitter which read: “FYI, this did not come from us. Please refer to OFFICIAL Leni Robredo accounts.”

“Leni Media Bureau uses an official email address when they send out notices, which they have been using since start of the campaign,” she added.

Asked about who was behind the black propaganda, Hernandez said, “It’s difficult for us to tell. We don’t want to give any political color to it.” JE/rga
