Special elections for 52 clustered precincts to be held on May 14
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will hold on May 14 special elections for more than 50 clustered precincts where failure of elections was declared.
The Commission released on Wednesday Resolution no. 10129, which orders special elections for 52 clustered precincts.
Security concerns were cited for the failure of elections in 47 clustered precincts. On the other hand, one clustered precinct did not have printed ballots, two had misdelivered official ballots and another two had insufficient number of official ballots.
Comelec said only 17,657 voters were affected.
Some incidents that forced Comelec not to hold elections in a certain area include the shooting of a soldier in Northern Samar, the burning of a vote-counting machine by armed men in Western Samar, and a fire incident in the school that serves as a voting center in Lanao del Sur.
The Comelec ruled that proclamation of certain winning candidates can be suspended if the failure of elections is seen to affect the results.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police will also be tasked to ensure the holding of orderly and peaceful special elections for places with security concerns.
