Still no break in probe of Makati official’s slay

Investigators were still checking leads that would lead them to the people who killed Makati social welfare officer Mila Dumaguit two weeks ago. “We’re still waiting for the result of the cross-matching of spent shells and slugs as well as the lie detection tests of  witnesses,” Makati Police officer in charge, Superintendent Jaime Santos, told the Inquirer in a text message. Santos earlier said that the killing of Dumaguit was recorded by a closed circuit television camera installed near the crime scene at the corner of Tanay Street and Osmeña Highway in Barangay (village) Valenzuela, Makati City. The police were able to get a copy of the footage but said that they were attempting to enhance the images to get a close look at the gunmen. Dumaguit was on her way to city hall on October 5 when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on her vehicle and her driver, Jun del Pilar. Dumaguit was the officer in charge of the Makati Social Welfare Department’s logistics and finance management services.—Miko Morelos

Man kills self in Quezon City

The body of a man who reportedly killed himself was found inside his quarters at an auto supply store in Quezon City on Monday afternoon. Police Officer 3 Jogene Hernandez of the Quezon City Police District homicide section identified the victim as Arturo Orate, 33, who was found hanging from a bar inside the toilet of his room at 2 p.m. “There was no suicide note or reason for him to take his life, according to his kin,” Hernandez said.—Nancy C.
