Poe: We need humane change

PRESIDENTIAL contender Sen. Grace Poe on Wednesday made public copies of her latest statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN), and signed the “TRUTH covenant” two days after the Manila Archdiocese launched the initiative for candidates in the May 9 elections.
Poe also called on Filipinos to “seriously consider” the brand of change they want for the country when they vote a new set of leaders next week.
“We need a humane kind of change,” the independent presidential candidate said, when asked to comment on the results of the latest Pulse Survey that saw her slide to third place behind rivals Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas.
As of December 31, 2015, Poe had a net worth of P89.118 million, down from P89.464 million in 2014. Her assets, which included those of husband Teodoro Misael Llamanzares and their minor children, consisted of real and personal properties amounting to P125.658 million. She listed liabilities worth P36.540 million.
Among the assets listed in Poe’s SALN were a house in Quezon City, a condominium unit in San Juan City, two condominium units in Makati, two houses in California purchased in 1992 and 2008, six vehicles, shares of stocks and dollar savings
accounts.
According to Radio Veritas executive director Fr. Anton Pascual, Poe went to the radio network’s head office in Quezon City early Wednesday morning to sign the TRUTH (Truthful, Responsible, Upright, Transparent and Honest) covenant and apologized for failing to attend the covenant’s launch on Monday, saying she was in Tarlac.
Only Roxas and Vice President Jejomar Binay among the five presidential candidates attended the event marked by a Mass officiated by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
Poe emerged as the top choice of Filipinos in the latest “truth survey” conducted by Radio Veritas that screened all five presidential candidates based on 10 qualities of a servant-leader.
In urging Filipinos to pray for discernment, Poe said she takes pride in running a positive campaign, as she had promised Cardinal Tagle and voters before the campaign period began. With reports by Jocelyn R. Uy and Gil Cabacungan
