Escudero: No one has monopoly of good intention for PH
Five days before the elections, vice presidential candidate Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Wednesday said no one has a monopoly of good intention for the country as he urged his fellow candidates to strip themselves of a sense of entitlement.
In a forum in Quezon City, Escudero said there was no dumb or intelligent voter in a democracy, adding that a lot of things can still happen on the days leading up to May 9 that may affect the candidacies of those vying for elective posts.
“Tulad ng nagdaang mga halalan, marami pa ring pwede at dapat mangyari bago mag-halalan na pwedeng makapagpabago, makapagdagdag o makabawas sa sino mang tumatakbo,” Escudero told the media at Kamuning Bakery Café.
“Sa isang demokrasya, walang mangmang o matalino. Ang sinusunod lamang, ang gusto ng mas nakararami. Mas masakit naman sa tainga siguro ‘yung mga nagsasabi at nagsasalita, na dapat kami lang… Walang may monopoliya ng magandang intensyon para sa ating bansa,” he said.
(Like in the previous elections, many things can still and must happen before the elections that could still change, help or hurt any candidate.
In a democracy, there’s no ignorant or wise. What reigns is the choice of the many. What perhaps is more difficult to comprehend are those who say that they should be the only ones…There is no monopoly of good intention for the country.)

Escudero said every Filipino, a voter or a candidate, has his own skill to offer for the betterment of the country.
“Bawat isa sa atin, may angking talino at talent na pwedeng ialay. Tanggalin at bitawan muna ‘yung mga sense of entitlement. Sa araw ng eleksyon, mayaman ka man o mahirap, tig-isa lang tayo ng boto,” Escudero said.
“Mahirap mag post-game analysis na hindi pa tapos ang game. Tignan na lang natin ang resulta ng halalan at doon natin himayin ang resulta,” he added.
(Each of us has his or her own wisdom and talent to offer. Let go of the sense of entitlement. On election day, whether you are rich or poor, we each have only one vote.
It’s difficult to conduct a post-game analysis when the game isn’t even finished yet. Let’s just look at the results of the election and then analyze the outcome.)
