Bongbong says Marcos name a big asset; proud to be his father’s son

Vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said his surname, despite the “built-in opposition” that comes with it, was more of an asset than a liability.
“Napakalaking asset (It is a huge asset),” Marcos said in an INQ & A Live interview. “To be exposed to two remarkable people, my father and mother, is remarkable.”
“Being a Marcos brings with it a built-in opposition but that’s part of public life. I don’t think any candidate has been elected with 100 percent vote. I’m grateful to know that we have more supporters than we have critics,” he added.
Asked about the stigma attached to the Marcos name because of the martial law, the namesake of the late dictator said he was a proud son of his father.
“His presidency cast a very long shadow and every son has to make his own name… I’m proud to be his son and I don’t want to remove that,” Marcos said.
“He succeeded in everything he did in politics. How could I do better? I’m always pale in comparison,” he added.
