Man dies after falling off bus in Benguet

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A man died after falling off a passenger bus bound for the summer capital on Tuesday morning (April 19) along Benguet’s Kabayan town, according to a belated police report.

Jimmy Elio, a 67-year-old farmer, fell when he tried to prevent a sack of rice from sliding out of the bus door as the vehicle drove through Sitio Besang in Adaoay village.

Elio suffered massive head injuries, and was transferred from a hospital in Bokod town to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, but he was declared dead on arrival there at 12:01 p.m., according to a Kabayan police report.

Elio had hitched a ride on an A-Liner bus (AYT 445), driven by Celso Lamirez, and was standing near the bus doors when he tried to rescue his sack of rice.
