The lawyer of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday confirmed her worsening physical condition amid the rising chatter about the true state of her health.

“Her condition is not improving, you can see from her appearance that she is worse off since her surgery,” said Raul Lambino. “People who see her notice how her physical condition has declined between their first and second visits.”

In a phone interview, Lambino said her doctors revealed that Arroyo was suffering from a rare disease, hypoparathyroidism, which has to be treated abroad.

He said Arroyo was scheduled for a checkup at St. Luke’s Medical Center at Bonifacio Global City today and he expected her doctors to give an update on her condition.

“I’m hopeful this checkup will finally resolve all questions on the true state of the former President’s health. We are not making this up, she really needs to get expert treatment outside the country,” Lambino said.

Earlier, Arroyo’s brother-in-law, Negros Oriental Representative Ignacio Arroyo, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer the former President had lost a lot of weight following the series of major operations on her spine.

“If I were the husband, I would suggest that she go abroad,” he had said. Gil Cabacungan
