2 killed in jeepney-truck collision in Pangasinan town
DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines—A college student and a truck driver died in a collision Tuesday, when a La Union-bound tanker crashed into a passenger jeepney at 8:30 a.m. in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
Maybelin Espinoza, one of the jeepney’s 20 passengers, and Michael Alegre, driver of the tanker that was carrying molasses, were killed in the crash.
Doctors informed the police that two of the jeepney’s passengers, Leonora Dispo and Mylene Mendoza, who are being treated at local hospitals, have not woken as of press time.
Most of the passengers were university students, according Chief Inspector Oliver Abayan, chief of Binalonan police.
Espinoza was a student at the Pangasinan State University in Urdaneta.
The jeepney was driven by Abdul Cercado, who was also hurt in the incident.
The other passengers were Katherine Mallari, Ada Japson, Jeilin Ballesteros, Mary Rose Valdez, Saturnia Silaroy, Pamela Gonzalez, Carleigh Taladtad, Argie Kapukyan, Jomas Gurdura, Robelyn delos Santos, Eunice Gagucas, Romilyn Peralta, Angelu Magno, Mar Tando, Micu Enriquez, Kenneth Orpilla and Feliciano Sobredo.
The tanker also had passengers who were Allan Baldonado, Alupol Alaby and a woman identified only as Maylene. RAM
