DANAO CITY, Cebu – The Durano-led political party in Cebu’s 5th district has formally announced their support for the presidential bid of Sen. Grace Poe and her running mate, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

Danao Vice Mayor Ramon “Red” Durano VI, president of the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud), on Thursday said the decision was reached after a series of consultations with their mayors and barangay captains.

Danao Mayor Nito Durano, Red’s father, said the Bakud party made a commitment to especially support Poe after he allowed his son, Rep. Ace Durano of Cebu’s 5th district, to be her campaign manager.

But the announcement was withheld because of the pending disqualification case against Poe.

But the Supreme Court has ruled that Poe is qualified to run for president since she is a natural-born Filipino and has met the 10-year residency rule.

After the SC ruling was released, Bakud members met on March 15 to pass a party resolution to formally express their support for Poe and Escudero.

Adano Roble, Bakud secretary general, read the Bakud resolution in a press conference held in Danao City on Thursday morning.

According to their resolution, the tandem of Poe and Escudero “embodies the ideals and principles of the party.”

It added that both Poe and Escudero are “most capable” in addressing problems now affecting the country and can ensure the country’s continued growth.

“It is the general principle of the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) to uphold moral ascendancy, sincerity, clean and honest governance among its membership and alliances,” the resolution added. CDG
