Bongbong on People Power Monument vandalism: It’s black propaganda

THE vandalism at Edsa People Power Monument extolling the late strongman President Ferdinand Marcos was “black propaganda,” his son and namesake claimed Tuesday.
“I believe this could be part of a black propaganda meant to stoke negative sentiment directed against my candidacy,” Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said in a statement.

The younger Marcos is running for vice president for the May elections and is doing well in pre-election surveys. He is statistically tied with rival Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

On Tuesday morning, the EDSA People Power Monument, a sculpture that symbolizes the toppling of the late dictator in 1986, was defaced with “Marcos pa rin!” graffiti on its lower side.

Malacañang said the act incited “justified anger” from Filipinos who took part in the Edsa revolt 30 years ago.

Workers from the Department of Public Works and Highways rushed to the monument and finished scrubbing off the letterings at noontime.

Marcos appealed to his fellow candidates and supporters “to elevate the political discussions to enable the Filipino people to make an informed and intelligent choice of new leaders who have presented workable platforms designed to bring progress, peace and prosperity for our country.” AC
