Senator Pia Cayetano pedals for brother Alan, presidential bet Duterte
Sen. Pia Cayetano has found a creative way to campaign for her brother, vice presidential candidate Alan Peter Cayetano, and his running mate, Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte—by using her passion for cycling to reach a lot of voters.
“Ronda Bisikleta para sa Pagbabago” kicked off early this month in Zamboanaga del Norte province on a journey to convince voters that the PDP-Laban tandem of Dutere and Cayetano is the country’s best choice in the coming presidential elections in May.
Actually, it is not the first time that Pia Cayetano, one of the country’s best known triathletes, used this unique way of campaigning. In the 2004 and 2010 national elections, she pedaled her way to the Senate, cycling through populated communities to woo voters.
Since March 4, she has been reaching out to the grassroots through a nationwide bicycle tour dubbed “Ronda Bisikleta.”
After the March 4 kickoff, the senator biked from Dipolog airport to Punto del Desembarco de Rizal in Dapitan City. She sought the support of students from Jose Rizal Memorial State University, telling them that only Duterte and Cayetano have the political will to push for a better Mindanao and a better Philippines.
On March 5, the biking senator was joined by locals in Dipolog City as they biked to Taboan market and to the town of Piñan. In the afternoon, she met with barangay health workers in Dipolog to discuss the tandem’s bold solutions to improve the country’s poor public healthcare system.

They’re the only ones with bold and quick solutions to end the misery of the people,” Cayetano said.

Cayetano also extended the reach of her “Ronda Bisikleta” tour to other cities and provinces. She was joined by Duterte-Cayetano supporters, student leaders and student athletes in biking around Intramuros, Manila, on March 9, where she also conducted dialogues with students from Lyceum of the Philippines University, Duterte’s alma mater. She was also in Southern Cebu on March 11 to meet with different sectors in the province.
Cayetano is expected to conduct more bicycle tours throughout the country to help spread the tandem’s campaign message, which is anchored on their shared vision to create real change.
Cayetano’s second term as senator is expiring this year and she is not eligible for reelection. She is seeking the congressional seat of her brother Lino in Taguig. Pia, Alan and Lino are all children of the late Sen. Rene Cayetano. They are based politically in Taguig, where Alan’s wife, Lani, is mayor.
