Deogracias Rosario, the “Father of the Tagalog Short Story,” was born on Oct. 17, 1894, in Tondo, Manila. He produced more than 80 short stories and is said to have written the first short story in Tagalog, “Kung Magmahal ang Makata.” He died on Nov. 26, 1936.—Schatzi Quodala
