Soldiers rescue 2 endangered PH hawk eagles

Army soldiers rescued two rare Philippine hawk eagles in the province of Quezon over the weekend, the military said Wednesday.
Members of the 85th Infantry Battalion were on security patrol last Saturday morning when they found the eagles in an abandoned hut in Barangay (village) Cawayanin in Lopez town, said Southern Luzon Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman.
The birds are considered endemic to the Philippines and classified as endangered species.
The eagles— a male and a female— were in separate cages, Guzman said quoting Lieutenant Shiela Mae Enderez, civil military operations officer of the said unit.
Guzman added that the eagles looked “weak” when they were found.
The eagles were turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on Tuesday noon. IDL
