Even if his son is marrying a niece of administration presidential candidate Mar Roxas, Sen. Serge Osmeña is not about to support the Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer in the coming elections.

Osmeña, who said he is inclined to support Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for President, explained that he disagreed with the way the Liberal Party had been conducting itself as shown by its current government policies.

He also thought the LP was “incompetent.”

“I would say Mar’s group has proven to be incompetent and I think the Filipino people deserve better,” said Osmeña in a TV interview Thursday by Karen Davila over ABS-CBN.

Osmeña confirmed that his son, Joey, was marrying Roxas’ niece, Ana Ojeda, the daughter of Roxas’ sister, Ria Roxas-Ojeda.

Expounding on why he was not supporting Roxas, Osmeña said: “There are differences between the way the Liberal Party has been conducting itself and the way I feel it should conduct itself.”

Among the things he disagreed with was the way the administration has handled the problems of the metro rail system, the traffic situation and the inability of the Land Transportation Office to produce driver’s license cards.

“They persist in being incompetent,” he  said, adding that “one of the most awful departments” was that of transportation and communications.

To him, the problems at DOTC seem “endless.”

 To aid Leni campaign

Even if he was not backing Roxas, Osmeña said he was helping his running mate, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, in her campaign for Vice President.

Osmeña believes Robredo’s survey numbers would still rise as the campaign has not yet started and there were still three months before the elections.

Robredo trails Sen. Francis Escudero and Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the vice presidential surveys.

Asked whom he would support for president, Osmeña said he was “leaning on” Duterte, underscoring the importance of having a leader with a “track record and who is able to deliver the goods.”
