GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines—A 34-year-old man has admitted to police it was lust for his sister-in-law that drove him to kill his younger brother while he slept in his house in a remote village in Sarangani province, police said.

Inspector Rodel Javison, police chief of the town of Malapatan in Sarangani, told reporters that Ruben Labong  has admitted to investigators he killed his younger brother Ernesto because he was obsessed with taking his wife.

“He was thinking that after killing his own brother, Carmelita would become his wife,” Javison told reporters on Wednesday.

Police said that last Monday afternoon, Ruben sneaked into his brother’s house in the remote village of Tukablao and hacked the sleeping Ernesto, 29, in the neck with a machete.

He then told Carmelita not to say a word or he would kill her too. Ruben then told village officials that another man murdered his brother, Javison said.

But Carmela later told police it was Ruben who killed her husband  and the police subsequently arrested the suspect, Javison said.

Charges were now being prepared against Ruben, who is  under police custody,  Javison said.
