SWU, CEC beat SCTI foes

THE Southwestern University Cobras and the Cebu Eastern College Dragons dumped separate foes in the 2nd SCTI Cup at the Cogon Pardo Gym.

The Cobras exploited their experience and height advantage in outsmarting Asuki Products, 96-82, with Hernando, Alvarado and Genrauli combining for 48 points.

Asuki led by 3-time MVP Mark Jayven Tallo had a good start and led, 30-28 at halftime. The Cobras however, pulled away in the third quarter with a half court trapping defense and  double teamed  Tallo to turn a 2-point halftime deficit into a huge 18-point lead.

Hernando led SWU with 22 points while Tallo paced Asuki with 20 markers.

In the main game, the CEC Dragons rebounded from their previous loss to the Cobras by crushing Day-as Selection, 107-82 to improve to 1-1.

CEC’s 6-foot-4 beanpole John Jose scored game high 32 points as the Dragons controlled the match from start to finish including a, 50-36 lead at halftime.

Aguirre and point guard Abecia backed Jose with 18 and 17 points, respectively, while Day-as, which suffered its second straight loss, was paced by Alfred Codilla’s 21 points.
