Urn containing Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc’s ashes now in Taguig City

The urn containing the ashes of Philippine Daily Inquirer’s editor in chief Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc arrived at The Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City midday Sunday.

Ariana Magsanoc-Alikpala, her granddaughter, carried the urn to the chapel after her family arrived around 1 p.m.

A vigil wake will be held from December 27 to 29 at Aeternum located at the Heritage Park.

Magsanoc passed away last Thursday, Christmas eve, at St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City after suffering cardiac arrest. She was 74.

Flowers continued to pile up outside the chapel as of posting time—including from President Benigno Aquino III, Manny V. Pangilinan, several senators and local leaders and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, among others.

Magsanoc is remembered as an icon in Philippine journalism. She was one of the founders of the Inquirer, which played a role in toppling the Marcos dictatorship. She eventually took the helm of the broadsheet in 1991 as editor in chief. RAM
