Rains to continue in several parts of PH as LPA enhances monsoon

Occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms induced by a low pressure area (LPA), formerly Tropical Depression “Onyok,” would still be experienced in several parts of the country, the state weather bureau said on Saturday afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 5 p.m. bulletin that the northeast monsoon or hanging amihan enhanced by the LPA would continue to bring rains to parts of northern and Central Luzon while the tail-end of a cold front would affect southern Luzon.

At 4 p.m., Pagasa said the LPA was last spotted in the vicinity of Lake Sebu in South Cotabato.

As an effect, moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms that may trigger flashfloods and landslides will be experienced over Mindanao, Bicol Region, Western Visayas and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will continue to experience light to moderate rains, while isolated thunderstorms would prevail in Central and Eastern Visayas.

Pagasa added that moderate to strong winds coming from the northeast would prevail over Luzon and Visayas and from the northeast to north over Mindanao.

Coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.
