31 students fall ill after consuming cassava delight in Guimaras town

ILOILO CITY—At least 31 students of Suclaran National High School in San Lorenzo town in Guimaras province fell ill after consuming cassava delight sold at their canteen on Tuesday.

Chief Insp. Ethan Estaya, chief of San Lorenzo police station said 10 boys and 21 girls bought the cassava delight from the school canteen at 9 a.m. Past 2 p.m., the students complained of stomach ache, dizziness and vomiting.

​“The students only ate cassava delight according to them and after [a] few hours they started to feel stomach ache, dizziness and vomiting,” Estaya confirmed.

​The students were rushed to Guimaras Provincial Hospital for treatment. Sixteen of them were treated as out-patients, 13 were under observation and two were confined in the hospital.
