The Armed Forces of the Philippines assured the public on Monday that it has adequate security coverage for land, sea, and air for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

“The security preparation has been based on a worst case scenario…so you prepare accordingly for those kinds of scenarios,” said AFP spokesperson Col. Restituto Padilla.

Over the weekend, multiple attacks hit parts of Paris, France, which prompted the Philippines to step up further its security preparations.

Padilla said they are prepared for both man-made and natural worst-case scenarios.

He emphasized, however, that they have not monitored any security threats to the APEC summit.

The spokesperson also warned the public not to believe circulating text messages that there are terror threats in the country.

“These are not true. So we appeal to the public that in case they get a lot of these text messages going around or through social media to disregard them or to clarify them to their respective police outposts or any member of the military,” Padilla said.
