Low pressure area strengthens into Tropical Depression ‘Ramon’—Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The active low pressure area seen east of Mindanao has developed into a tropical depression and was named “Ramon,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Monday.

As of 10 a.m., Ramon was seen 600 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, and has maximum sustained winds 55 kilometers per hour near the center, it said.

Ramon was forecast to move West at 15 kilometers per hour, it added.

It was expected to be 300 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur by Tuesday morning, 60 kilometers east southeast by Wednesday morning, and at the vicinity of Iloilo by Thursday morning, the state-run weather bureau said.

In the meantime, no public storm signals have been raised.

The estimated rainfall amount is from 5 – 20 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within the 200 km diameter of the tropical depression, Pagasa said.
