New houses awarded to 18 poor families
Homeless no more.
A call center and business outsourcing firm has turned over 18 houses to poor families in Barangay (village) Batasan Hills, Quezon City, as part of its annual “Day of Service” for the less fortunate.
“The sheer force of our team—thousands of people willingly giving their time and energy, many after working a long night shift, to help people they don’t even know—I’m truly inspired,” Jeffrey Puritt, president of Telus International, said in a statement.
Every year, 2,000 Telus employees participate in the Day of Service by engaging in different activities such as house construction, painting, medical missions and livelihood lessons, among others.
They also visit communities to connect with residents and conduct life skills programs on weekends.
On Saturday, Telus employees joined this year’s day of service in Gawad Kalinga (GK) villages in Barangay Batasan Hills and Tandang Sora, both in Quezon City.
Since the inception of the volunteer program, the firm has built over 55 houses in cooperation with Gawad Kalinga in different areas.
The company plans to build 16 more homes. In the GK 2 village in Batasan Hills, the firm has pledged to construct 125 additional homes for residents in the area.
Three more GK villages in Quezon City are also beneficiaries of Telus.
