Wild mushrooms down 5 in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY—Five people fell ill past 9 p.m. on Tuesday after eating wild mushrooms during dinner in Miag-ao town in Iloilo.

The five victims were identified as Nemesio Embino Jr., 46 and his daughter Janella, 9; Jeffrey Murcia, 25; Irish Benjieshna, 10; and Benjie Floro, 9 all from Barangay (Village) Igbugo, Miag-ao.

Records from Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao District, Iloilo City said the six had sautéed mushroom for dinner past 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Nemesio found the wild mushrooms in the farm. He harvested the mushrooms and cooked these for dinner.

After two hours, they started feeling sick. They complained of dizziness and stomach pains and had vomited.

They were immediately brought to WVMC where they were confined.
