Charges of frustrated murder, grave threat and child abuse were filed Monday against four members of a family related to the Josons of Nueva Ecija over a road rage incident in Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa City, on Sept. 18.

Karlo Alfonso Santiago, his father Alfonso and sister Kay filed the case in the Muntinlupa City Prosecutor’s Office against brothers Christian and Angelo Joson who allegedly beat up Karlo. Also charged were the brothers’ parents, Crisolito and Patricia, who reportedly witnessed the mauling. Both families live in the exclusive Ayala Alabang subdivision.

In Alfonso’s statement to the police, he said that around 9 p.m. on Sept. 18, he was in a golf cart with 26-year-old son Karlo and his 3-year-old grandson (Kay’s son) on their way out of the subdivision when their path was blocked by a white Toyota Prado.

Alfonso said that the Joson brothers got out of their sport utility vehicle, berated them for blocking their path and told them, “Ang angas mo ah! May sinasabi ka? (You’re so arrogant! Who do you think you are?)”

Karlo said he tried to intervene but the brothers beat him up until he almost lost consciousness. He suffered facial injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was confined for two days.

The Santiagos claimed that before the brothers left the scene, they bragged that they were related to the Joson political clan in Nueva Ecija province.

Former Nueva Ecija Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson recently told the Inquirer that while the Josons in Muntinlupa City may be their distant relatives from Bataan, they should be held accountable for their actions.
