Even government officials are complaining of the slow action of concerned agencies to fix the broken sections of Macapagal Avenue, which have been causing heavy traffic.

Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson said he received text messages from Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares complaining of the condition of Macapagal Avenue which she uses on her way home.

Singson said he already discussed the problem several times with Peter Anthony Abaya, head of the Philippine Reclamation Authority, which was in charge of the reclamation area.

“Sabi ko kung pwede kami magpapagawa dahil pare-pareho tayong gobyerno at minumura na tayo katakot takot n’yan,” Singson told reporters after attending a budget hearing at the Senate on Tuesday.

“Sabi niya (Abaya), hindi na. Nakontrata na namin yan dahil COA (Commission on Audit) did not want them to touch that road dahil may overpricing issue nga dyan sa Macapagal boulevard na dati pa,” he added.

“Well sabi nya kinontra na nya, so pinabayaan ko na. Pero hanggang ngayon …” the public works secretary said.

Abaya is the brother of Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.

Singson explained that the area was not a national road and the Department of Works and Highway, which he heads, could not just take over it.
