Community service, fine in World Trade Center parachute jump
NEW YORK — A man convicted of parachute-jumping from the top of New York’s One World Trade Center with two other men has been sentenced to 300 hours of community service.
A judge on Monday also ordered Marko Markovich to pay a $2,000 fine.
James Brady and Andrew Rossig had to pay similar fines but received lesser community service sentences earlier this month.
The men were convicted in June of reckless endangerment and other misdemeanors.
Prosecutors say the men jumped from the building when it was under construction in the early morning hours of Sept. 30, 2013. The men were arrested six months later.
The jumps caused considerable embarrassment to authorities over security at the building, the tallest in the United States.
Defense lawyers argued the jumps were well planned and weren’t reckless.
