Binay-Marcos in 2016? Bongbong says why not?
SENATOR Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said he is open to the idea of running with Vice President Jejomar Binay in 2016.
“I’m open to anything at this point,” Marcos said when asked over ANC’s “Headstart” about a possible team-up with Binay.
“This is Philippine politics, and you can’t discount the possibility of things that you didn’t imagine would happen. Never say never when it comes to politics. And again I mean, I always go back to the simple principle of keeping your options open,” he added.
But while there had been talks in the media and some groups of a possible Binay-Marcos team-up in 2016, Marcos said the Vice President himself has not discussed the matter yet with him.
Asked if he already gave his yes to Binay’s camp, the senator said: “We’re still in the midst of discussing everything.”
Aside from Binay, Marcos said he also met with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who was among those being floated as one of possible presidential bets, but said they had no specific discussions on the 2016 elections.
“Basically, I asked him (Duterte) what are you planning to do and he asked me, what are you planning to do and we talked about it, what do you think if this thing happens, what do you think if that happens,” he said.
In eyeing a higher post next year, Marcos noted the “general sentiment” even among the young generation that life was better during the time of his father, the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
The senator also expressed confidence that he could rely on what he described as “solid Ilocano vote” if he decides to run for a higher post next year. Maila Ager
