Mother and son in Iloilo die in apparent suicide case–police
Iloilo City – A mother and her 9-year-old son were brought by neighbors to a hospital after they found the two almost unconscious Monday morning at their house in Cabatuan town.
Police said one of the neighbors, Leo Coronado, heard mumblings for help from the house of Lucia Marte, 40, in Barangay (village) Janipaan Oeste at around 8 a.m.
PSInsp. Englebert Banquillo, chief of police of Cabatuan, said Coronado and other neighbors forced their way into Marte’s house and found her and her 9-year-old son almost unconscious.
They brought the two to a hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Investigators are looking into a possible suicide case by drinking poison.
“We found a cup of coffee with still undissolved powder believed to be poison,” Banquilo said.
Police investigators later found two sachets of Lanit Insecticide inside the room where the victims’ bodies were found.
