A Roxas-Trillanes ticket for the 2016 elections is off the table.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said he had asked Malacañang to remove his name from any shortlist of possible running mates of Liberal Party presidential candidate Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.

“Nagpaalam na po ako sa Malacañang na alisin na po ako sa konsiderasyon nila as vice presidential candidate,” (I already told Malacañang to take me off its consideration as runningmate) Trillanes said in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990 AM on Sunday.

The senator explained that he did not share the Aquino administration’s views on some issues.

“Magkaiba ang aming pananaw tulad ng sa K-12 program. Yung sa RH law, hindi rin ako sang-ayon dahil sa sex education na iimpose nila sa grade six students. It will create more problems,” (We have opposing views like with the K-12 program. In regard to the RH law, I oppose mandatory sex education for grade six students) he said.

Despite this, Trillanes promised President Benigno Aquino III that he would remain an ally of his administration.

The senator said he was 100 percent sure of running for vice president even if he would not be endorsed by the Nacionalista Party.

In the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey in June, only 1.1 percent of respondents chose Trillanes for vice president.

Senator Grace Poe, who is being wooed by the Liberal Party as Roxas’ running mate, led that SWS survey. Aries Joseph Hegina
