Scheduled water cut prompts Manila schools to suspend Tuesday classes

AT LEAST six universities in Manila have suspended their classes on Tuesday, August 11, because their campuses would be affected by a scheduled water interruption.

These schools are:

  1. Mapua Institute of Technology in Intramuros;
  2. Technological University of the Philippines-Manila;
  3. Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila;
  4. Adamson University;
  5. Philippine Normal University and;
  6. Santa Isabel College

Classes will resume in these schools on Wednesday, August 12, except for TUP where the resumption of classes is set on Thursday, August 13.

Meanwhile, Colegio de San Juan de Letran did not suspend classes but expected its students and faculty to “observe proper water usage and conserve the supply that we have.”

The water interruption started in parts of Alabang, Buli, Cupang and Sucat in Muntinlupa City at 10 a.m., Monday. It will last until 4 a.m. on August 12.

Aside from Muntinlupa City, parts of Caloocan, Manila, Parañaque, Makati in the National Capital Region and the cities of Bacoor, Imus, Cavite and Noveleta town in Cavite province will be affected by the water interruption.

The water interruption was due to the Maynilad’s realignment of its seven-foot-tall water pipeline along Juan Luna and Hermosa Streets in Tondo, Manila starting Monday. AJH
