20 busted in Caloocan drug raid

Twenty persons were arrested before dawn Wednesday when members of joint police units swooped down on suspected drug dens in Caloocan City.

Members of Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Special Action Force, Highway Patrol Group and city police raided at least 10 houses that were allegedly used as “shabu tiangge (markets)” in Barangay (village) Tala.

Police Director Benjamin Magalong, CIDG chief, said in a report that the operation was based on 14 search warrants targeting gun-for-hire suspects, and alleged drug traffickers and car thieves.

Around 5 a.m., Magalong said police searched several houses, which were known lairs of alleged criminal elements, with multiple rooms that were “hastily abandoned.”

During the raid, 20 persons were arrested by the police.

At least 17 motorcycles and undetermined quantity of drugs believed to be shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were confiscated.

Operatives also seized eight firearms and assorted ammunitions including a carbine rifle, five .45-caliber pistols, one .38-caliber pistol and a .22-caliber revolver, and two hand grenades. IDL
