Diplomatic corps also present at quake drill
WHEN a strong earthquake such as a 7.2 magnitude earthquake strikes, what will happen to the foreign nationals in the country?
Members of the diplomatic corps attended the citywide earthquake drill on Thursday at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority command post in Parañaque.
“Your excellencies, instructions given to the Department of Foreign Affairs is to provide you a safe haven as briefed before. Your group will be transported/ ferried safely to a safe place in Tagaytay. Your military attaches, consul generals are required to be here and to account for and to provide the DFA an inventory of your residents/nationals stating in Metro Manila who might be affected by the 7.2 quake,” MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino told the diplomatic corps at the briefing after the drill.
“We will ask you to provide a list of [the names] of your nationals staying in Metro Manila. We will ask you to do that within 12 hours,” he added.
A representative from Korean embassy assured that they would cooperate with the government and help out in disasters.
There are 120,000 Korean nationals in the Philippines.
The government led by the MMDA held a citywide earthquake drill on Thursday. An earlier study showed that a quake of such magnitude could kill at least 30,000 in Metro Manila.
