Cops allegedly hit on Monday a man with their protective gear as tension rose between protesters and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The 20-year-old member of Anakpawis, identified as Rolando Cabuang, suffered a laceration in his right eye according to Quezon City Red Cross volunteer Menelio Salire.

Christopher Ferrer, one of the volunteers who initially responded on the scene, said they brought him to General Malvar Hospital, the nearest hospital in the area.

Protesters were trying to break the barricade to cross the southbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue to get nearer to the House of Representatives compound where President Benigno Aquino III is set to deliver his last State of the Nation Address.
