Photo exhibit on human trafficking held at STC
THE International Justice Mission (IJM) recently conducted a photo exhibit at St. Theresa’s College (STC) in Cebu City to raise awareness against human trafficking.
A ribbon cutting, followed by the program, took place on the first day of the exhibit.
The photo exhibit featured videos of singer Christian Bautista, a justice advocate, that encouraged other youths to volunteer as justice advocates.
“This event is the best channel for the students from different schools to participate and become aware of the issues involving human trafficking,” said Cris Virgil Pescadero, justice advocate from the University of the Philippines Cebu.
The STC justice advocates, who spearheaded the event with the assistance of IJM, also proposed to adopt barangays Lorega, Pasil and Zapatera in Cebu City for their human trafficking awareness campaign.
Julius Bungcaras, IJM community mobilization for churches and students coordinator, said the barangays are vulnerable to trafficking, thus the need to educate people in the areas.
Bungcaras said that through the event, they recruited student advocates from the different high schools, colleges and universities.
He said IJM will train the newly recruits on community awareness and mobilization.
