Local beauty queen dies after taking ‘slimming pills’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A local beauty queen in Zamboanga del Norte died last Friday (July 17) allegedly after taking slimming pills.
Maan Acedo, 19, died days after she was brought to the Zamboanga del Norte Medical Center.
Apple Agolong, tourism officer of Dapitan City, said Acedo was the first runner up in the Miss Saulog of Zamboanga del Norte contest and was joining the Miss Dapitan beauty contest for the city’s Kinabayo Festival this week.

Acedo died even before the coronation night of the Miss Dapitan scheduled for Thursday (July 23).
Physicians at the Dipolog Medical Center said Acedo had multi-organ failure after taking slimming pills four times a day.
Sources said Acedo was brought to the hospital after she suffered bleeding while on a photoshoot for the Ms Dapitan contest.
